You’re going to be seeing a new face at storytimes and in the children’s room! Shannon is our new Youth Programming Assistant. We’re thrilled to have Shannon joining our Youth Department!!
Welcome Shannon! We’re so excited to have you join our team here at HSL. We’d love to get to know a bit more about you. So let’s get started. First, we have to ask, what’s your favorite genre of book or movie?
I like a lot of different genres of books and movies! Mostly I like reading historical, romance, and mystery fiction as well as Christian non-fiction. For movies, I love rom-coms and Disney!
What hobby would you get into if time and money weren’t an issue?
I love photography and so I would buy a bunch more camera lenses and a new camera body. Then I would go travel around the world taking photos of the coolest, most interesting things around the world not normally seen by tourists.
What are you interested in that most people haven’t heard of?
Okay, this is the most nerdy answer of all time but I love the research of the United Stated Bureau of Labor Statistics about future trends in employment (specifically what jobs are going to be obsolete or really important to us in 18-30 years) and how that affects the way we educate our children now.
What form of public transportation do you prefer? (air, boat, train, bus, car, etc.)
I love flying on airplanes and going on road trips in the car. I don’t particularly love going on road trips on buses though… once I took a trip to Louisiana where I took at 30 hour bus ride straight through the night to get there. Not fun.
Would you rather go hang gliding or whitewater rafting?
Neither, I am a scaredy-cat.
Where is the most interesting place you’ve been?
I have been to Mt. Le Conte in the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. I hiked this mountain in the middle of the winter and surprisingly, it was 30 degrees at the bottom and 60 degrees at the top!
What fictional place would you most like to go?
I would love to go to Narnia! I loved the Chronicles of Narnia as a kid and went to see every movie!
What pets did you have while you were growing up?
I had one cat, named Tiger Cat (TC), when I was very little. TC died when I was 4 or 5 and it was so traumatizing I haven’t had a pet since!
What book impacted you the most?
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas was huge for me in thinking about current social issues. It is an excellent YA novel and brings up very relevant issues for our young adults to think through.
Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
Extrovert all the way!!! I love being around others and going to social gatherings.
