Know Your Librarian: Gigi

|

Gigi might be a familiar face at our circulation desk but did your know she just got promoted?!? She’s now our new Youth Programming Assistant. We’re so excited for her to join our Youth Department.

Hi Gigi! Congratulations on the promotion. We can’t wait to learn a bit more about you. We’ve got some questions ready so let’s dive right in. First, we have to ask, what’s your favorite genre of book or movie?

I am a pretty diverse reader but my favorite genres are Thriller/Suspense and Historical Fiction! I am terrified of horror movies but I can still read horror books.

What hobby would you get into if time and money weren’t an issue?

I would take up cooking. I already like to cook but if I had unlimited time and resources, I would be cooking all of the time!

What are you interested in that most people haven’t heard of?

Something unique that I am interested in is Positive Psychology. My undergraduate degree is in Psychology and I am fascinated by the field of Psychology but especially Positive Psychology! Positive Psychology is the scientific study of the strengths that enable individuals and communities to thrive. The field is founded on the belief that people want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives. I love to find books on Positive Psychology theories and information on the field.

What form of public transportation do you prefer? (plane, boat, train, bus, car, etc.)

I would choose driving in a car over any other type of transportation any day! I’m not a huge fan of planes or trains. I enjoy boat rides but driving in a car is the most comfortable in my opinion.

Would you rather go hang gliding or whitewater rafting?

I have been white water rafting and based on my experience (almost falling in every other minute) I would have to go with hang gliding!

Where is the most interesting place you’ve been?

The most interesting place I have been is on a family vacation to Maui where we watched the sunrise from the top of a volcano and went zip lining!

What fictional place would you most like to go?

If I could choose one fictional place it would be any place from Harry Potter books, possibly “Diagon Alley”! I’ve always loved Harry Potter so I would love to visit.

What pets did you have while you were growing up?

Growing up I had a few pets: two rabbits, named Gus and Violet, and two dogs, Charlie and Phoebe (who I still have!).

What book impacted you the most?

The book that has impacted me the most is “I Am Malala” by Malala Yousafzai. This book really opened my eyes to how life can be in other countries and how important it is for individuals to speak up for what is right. I also love how this book tells the story of a young girl making a huge impact and showing that no matter your age you can always make a difference.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

I am definitely an extrovert!
