Hello Hollis Patrons:

I hope you are all doing as well as can be expected given the unprecedented experience we are collectively going through. It’s been impressed upon me that this is a time for many of us to be gentle with ourselves and offer grace, to our spouses, children, friends, and neighbors.

Many of us are processing this experience differently and trying to maintain a sense of balance and cohesiveness in the face of uncertainty. I have been trying especially hard to take this time to be present with my children and build stronger relationships with them and my spouse.

Board games have been particularly useful for our family as a way to spend time together and we try to set aside some time every night for Twister, Hungry-Hungry Hippos, or Connect Four. Family bonding time is essential!

Shannon, our Youth Programmer, has put together some digital breakout rooms, which are a fun and easy way for families to pass some time.

We have wonderful books and magazines located on Hoopla, RBdigital, and Overdrive/Libby, that will engage all our young readers, and are easily accessible on our website. And, if you’re looking to supplement your children’s homework, check out our research online resources! It’s all free to use with just your library card!

Does anyone else remember the 90s TV show “Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?” It was one of my favorites for sure. And guess what?! Google Earth has an awesome program called: Where on Google Earth is Carmen Sandiego? This is a fun activity to teach kids about different places in the world.

We dearly miss all of our wonderful patrons. We look forward to continuing to provide you with engaging, entertaining, and educational material, whether it’s via a digital platform or once again in person (fingers crossed for May!).

Thank you to so many of you who have reached out to us with ideas and positive feedback, we are grateful to be a part of your community.

Sincerely,

Meghan (Youth Librarian) and the HSL Team
